Coaching Updates

All associations & Coaches are to be familiar with these new changes for 2019 Plus Reminders.
 
New for 2019:

1.  Respect in Sport is now mandatory.   In 2019 the following roles / ages are required to complete this training, available online on the Ringette Canada website:
  • Trainers
  • U8 - U12 Coaches
2.  New Junior Coach
14-17 year old's (formerly referred to as "Coach in Training" or "CIT") with less mandated training. A new role has been introduced which requires only the following coursing:
  • Coach Initiation in Sport eModule
  • Making Head Way in Sport eModule
  • Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders
3. On-Ice Helpers (On-Ice Assistants) now need basic training, updated rules.  
In order to ensure the best development of our athletes the following training is now required for on-ice helpers:
  • Coach Initiation in Sport eModule
  • Making Head Way in Sport eModule
4.  Female on the bench
U12P, U14A, U16A and U19A levels must have a qualified female head or assistant coach on the bench  staff by registration date.

5.  U16A and U19A Coach Certification leniency
Due to the lack of Learning Facilitators available to complete this program it is Strongly Recommended for these coaches to apply and complete their on ice evaluation leading to Certification but it is not mandatory for the 2020 date.
 
6.  Registration Date for Coaching updated
The due date for coaching has been extended to November 30, 2019.  All bench staff (Coaches, Managers, Trainers) must be qualified by 'Registration Date" (of each playing year.  CI certification deadline is January 15th.
 
 
For 2020:

1. Trainer: 
By November 1st 2020, all U9-U19 teams must have a qualified and dedicated trainer on their bench.  Trainer must be present for all competitions.   Strongly recommended that all other levels have a Trainer on their bench.

2.  Respect in sport mandatory for Trainers and Coaches at all levels between U8 - U19.

3.  CI Certification reminders:
By January 15th , 2020 all U16A and U19A coaches will be required to be CI Certified, by January 15th , 2021 all U14A coaches will be required to be CI Certified.
 
  
Reminders:
  1. NEW CI Evaluation process - RO states that all registered bench staff who are requesting a Competition Introduction (CI) Evaluation to complete CI Certification must follow the revised process outlined at the following link: https://ringetteontario.com/the-people/coaches/competition-introduction-evaluations/
    • Competition Introduction (CI) Evaluations must be requested by October 31st and completed by January 15th of the current playing season.
    • All U14, U16 and U19AA coaches are required to be CI Certified.
  2. Coach certifications expire in January 2020:  be sure that you have the required PDU's to maintain your certification or you will be removed from your TRF.
    • Coaches who are 20/20 will show Renewed status come January 1, 2020.
    • If your record indicates 20/20 (or 10/10) it means you have fulfilled PD requirements for this 5 year cycle and do not need to complete any further training to remain in good standing this season.
  3. CI certifications - coaches no longer have the option of taking a Design a Basic Sports Program to complete the CI training.
  4. Managers:  No longer permitted on the bench for U14AA, U16AA and U19AA during competition.  
    • Note that this is a Ringette Ontario Rule - so it applies to all of our games
  5. New U12 Coaches may take either CSI or CI coaching clinic.
  6. CI Trained required for all Regional U14, U16, U19 coaches
